Add a CONFIDENTIAL or DRAFT watermark
The most common watermarks are a single word across the page: CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, COPY, SAMPLE. In Watermark PDF you type the word, keep the diagonal default or adjust it, and save a new PDF with the word on every page you chose.
Steps
- Open the PDF in Watermark PDF. It stays in your browser; it is not uploaded to app.zone’s servers.
- Replace the text. The field starts with “CONFIDENTIAL”, selected. Type DRAFT, COPY, a client name or a short phrase — up to 80 characters.
- Pick a style that matches the label (see below).
- Check the pages in the preview, then press Add Watermark.
Which style fits which label
- CONFIDENTIAL — center, 45°, gray, around 30% opacity. Clearly visible on every page, but the text underneath stays readable.
- DRAFT — red works well, so the status is obvious at a glance. Keep the opacity low enough that reviewers can still read and comment.
- COPY or SAMPLE — Tile repeats the word across the page, so even a cropped part of a page still carries it.
- A name or a reference (“Prepared for Smith & Co”, “Ref 2026-114”) — a corner position, 0°, small size reads like a stamp and stays out of the content.
Short text works best
A watermark is scaled to fit the page, so a long sentence becomes small. One or two words read better than a full line. Capital letters look more like a stamp; lower case looks more like a note. Both are fine.
The text can be written in many alphabets, including accented Latin letters, Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic, Devanagari, Japanese and Simplified Chinese. If a character can’t be drawn yet, the field tells you which one, and the watermark is not added until you change it.
What a CONFIDENTIAL watermark does — and doesn’t do
A watermark tells the reader how the document should be treated. It does not lock the file, encrypt it or stop anyone from removing the mark with a PDF editor. Think of it as a clear label on the page, not a security measure, and keep your unwatermarked original.
Your own text is not changed: it can still be selected and searched, and the watermark word does not end up in copied text.
